Starting a business

Should I register as a flat-rate sole trader, a sole trader keeping books, or an LLC?

It depends on how much you expect to earn, how high your costs are, whether you work for one client or several, and whether you plan to hire. For a first steer, take our 60-second quiz, then call us and we’ll check the details.

How long does it take to open a company?

With the paperwork in order, registration with the APR (the Serbian Business Registers Agency) usually takes up to five working days. We prepare and file the documents; you only sign.

Flat-rate taxation (paušal)

What is the flat-rate limit, and what happens if I go over it?

A flat-rate sole trader can earn up to 6 million dinars in a calendar year. Go over it and you move to keeping full books. There is a second threshold too: when your turnover in Serbia passes 8 million dinars in any 12 consecutive months, you enter the VAT system. We track both and get in touch long before you get close.

What is the independence test?

It is a legal check of whether you are genuinely self-employed or effectively working as one client’s employee. The law sets nine criteria; meet five or more and you pay higher tax, as if you were employed. We help you see where you stand in time to change it.

Switching from another accountant

What does switching from another accountant involve?

Less than you think. You sign an authorisation, we contact your current accountant and take over all the records. You don’t even need to call them. The start of a month is easiest, but mid-month works too.

Could switching cause trouble with the Tax Administration?

Not if it’s done properly, and that’s our job. When we take over the books, we check that everything has been filed and paid. If we find anything unfinished, we tell you straight away and propose how to fix it.

Pricing and payment

How much does your bookkeeping cost?

It depends on your business form and workload, for example how many invoices and employees you have. We agree it on the first call. It is fixed, you know it upfront, and it doesn’t rise without your agreement.

What if my business grows?

We talk first. If the workload really changes, we propose a new fee and explain why. Nothing changes without your consent, and you’ll never get a bill that surprises you.

Working digitally

Do I have to come to the office?

No. Everything can be done by phone, email and messages. If you’d rather meet in person, you’re welcome at Cara Lazara 15; the coffee is on us.

How do I send you documents?

However is easiest for you: by email or by photographing receipts with your phone. We tell you exactly what we need and by which day of the month, no folders to carry.

Deadlines and obligations

How do I know what to pay, and by when?

Before every deadline you get a message from us: what you’re paying, how much and by when, with the payment details. Nothing to memorise, no calendar to keep.

What should I do if I get a letter from the Tax Administration?

Don’t panic; send it to us. We read it, explain in plain words what it says and what needs doing, and we prepare the reply.

Didn’t find your answer?

Call and ask directly. Most questions take a couple of minutes, and the answer is free.
